Responsibilities:
In Port:
- Relief of First Officer as Officer of the Watch
- In charge of Bridge and Bridge Team, until relieved of the watch
- Carry out Officer of the Watch responsibilities as directed by the Master
Underway:
- Assist the Officer of the Watch
- Weather and Communications – (including responding to inquiries, notice to ECR, etc.)
- Alarms
- Administrative tasks – NAPA Logbook, supporting the Navigator
- Under the direction of the First Officer, monitor the navigational progress of the vessel
- Responsible for the corrections and update of all publications in the Radio Station and radio signals publications on the Bridge
- Tests the GMDSS communication equipment and properly logs results in the Radio Logbook and the AMOS System
- Verify safety management system updates for applicable deck department items
- Flags inventory and requisition
- Assist the Chief Officer Safety with day-to-day operation and maintenance Quality Assurance as well as other projects assigned by the Chief Officer or the Staff Captain
- Maintenance and upkeep of ship’s certificates and documents under Staff Captain’s guidance
- Provides professional and social guidance to subordinates by exemplary personal behavior
- The Master or the Staff Captain may delegate any other duties as necessary
- Emergency Duties as specified in the ship Assembly Plan and sending out distress signals under the Master’s orders
- Uphold the general safety management responsibilities in areas and operations under their control
Basic Qualifications:
- Hold a valid Certificate of Competency and relevant safety certification
- Have minimum one year experience at sea as assistant Officer of the Watch
